Six By Nico, Belfast: Review

Belfast has been blessed with a brand new dining experience and I was lucky enough to enjoy a meal there the evening before the official opening.

Belfast only has a few restaurants which offer Tasting Menus and to be honest I have always been a bit cautious about trying them because I had got it into my head that I’d be paying a lot of money and leave starving. Six By Nico proved me wrong! The name Six By Nico is based on the fact that the theme of the menu changes every six weeks and there are six courses on the menu! The current theme is “The Chippie” – perfect for Belfast. The fine dining take on classic dishes we would order from a chippie was out of this world!

Six Dishes

Course 1 – Chips and Cheese

I’m a bit funny about cheese but this dish blew me away! In detail: Parmesan Espuma, crisp potato and curry oil.

Course 2 – Scampi

I had my dishes tailored to be gluten free, but that didn’t make any difference to the beautiful tastes! In detail: monkfish cheeks, pea emulsion, wild garlic and gribiche.

Course 3 – Steak Pie

The most stunning beef shin I’ve ever eaten; it fell apart perfectly and melted in my mouth! In detail: beef shin, burnt onion ketchup, mushroom duxelle and red wine.

Course 4 -Fish and Chips

Yum yum yummmm! So tasty. In detail: cod, confit fennel, samphire and beer pickled muscles.

Course 5 – Smoked Sausage

Served on a smoking dish under a glass dome, entertaining AND tasty af. In detail: trio of pork, salt baked celeriac, caramelised apple and black pudding. These flavours complimented each other in the most amazing way!

Course 6 – Deep Fried Mars Bar

The dish I had been looking forward to for days. Oh Em Geeeee! Insane. Give me moreeeeee!! In detail: caramelia chocolate, orange sorbet, cocoa nib.

My Honest Opinion

Holy smokes. Absolutely INCREDIBLE flavours, presentation, ideas, effort and perfectly matched wines!

I would expect to pay a lot more than what would have to be paid for the whole experience! The tasting menu is priced at £28 and to pair with matching wines it’s an extra £25 on top of the £28. Our experience was kindly gifted but I already plan on taking Caolan for date night and paying for the outstanding food and service!

Thanks to the team at Six By Nico and Rumour Mill PR for having me along. I cannot wait to go back!
